Peter McCurdy – a Day of Reflection

Today is a day of reflection for our team, as we look back on the past 3 years, and that sad day when we suddenly lost our founder, and my brother – Peter McCurdy.

The world is a different place to what it was on 25 February 2019.  COVID 19, and the impact it had worldwide, is certainly one we want to be a once in a lifetime event.

I didn’t think anything could be worse, both personally for me, and our team, than losing Pete, but COVID 19 certainly tested that.  What both events taught us though, is that resilience, kindness, teamwork and support will always guide us through the tough times.

The PDS team are one I am personally extremely proud of, and each member has showed every one of these traits, it is what makes PDS what it is, and is exactly the way my brother guided our team, and the way he taught us to consider our customers.  When Pete talked ‘teamwork’ he included our customers, not just PDS members.  He built very strong relationships, at all levels, from those working in the field through to management.  I know so many of them felt his loss, just as strongly as we did.

As I reflect on his legacy, I can’t help but think of what he would think of the industry we are working in today.  Pete loved the efficiencies that technology can bring to a mine site, and I am sure he would be thrilled to see the mining digital transformation and where it is today.

Contemplating all of this, I am also confident therefore that the time is right for me to step back to lighter duties, enjoy some long service leave, and take a breather.  The team is in very good hands under the guidance of our General Manager, Peter Thorpe, with the company continuing to grow and strengthen, through a period of time many have not come through the other side of.

Thank you all – team and customers alike!
